Not the easiest store to go through, I think you have to have a real open mind while attending your local Goodwill store. There is not need to look at brand nor size, because both will wrongly affect your judgement on the clothing.
I have bought shirts that are size 2 to size 16, both of which fit me well. I also buy brands that my grandmother wears such as Alfred Dunner, but it did not stop me.
Thrifting is a full day experience, so do not just plan on being in a store for under an hour, because to get the full potential out of the experience, needs much more time.
Between trying things on (which is a must, even though the fitting rooms aren't the most pleasant) and sifting through the racks thoroughly, plan on being in a store for around two hours give or take.
Therefore, dress comfortably.
My biggest tip is to look for key pieces that are both unique and remind you of what you are seeing in stores. Part of the reason why many go towards thrifting, is to find pieces that no one else will have.
By choosing pieces that are on trend or fit a fad, you will fit in but have a piece like no one else. Isn't that great? Who doesn't like standing out? The best part being, when someone asks you where you got the piece...and you answer with the Goodwill...they will be so shocked, and MORE jealous!!
Another reason why this works is because old is new again due to the cyclical nature of fashion, so the old clothes that many discard are actually very in at the moment, for atleast half the price! Vintage is also a style that many turn to and many people should be aware that vintage clothes are found at places such as the Goodwill and then bumped up in price.
Here are a few of my great finds:

Sheer is very "in" and this shirt is very similar to one found at White House Black Market. And to prove my point, this shirt is a size 14 and you would never know!!
This shirt is another example of why size does not matter. This is a 22 W and is perfect to wrap around and wear with a belt. A great nautical look for the summer!

This shirt is a favorite of mine. It has a very vintage vibe and can be paired with some great high-waisted shorts or a maxi skirt for that romantic feel.
This shirt is perfect for this season with the unusual print that has been seen on many runway shows such as Prada.

This is the best find for me thus far. Very girly, very vintage, and very "in."
A tuxedo blazer that is perfect with any outfit.

A suede fringe jacket to bring back WoodStock.
Don't be afraid to try something a little different, because trust me, you will be happy that you did.
So walk the talk like you paid a million dollars, but know on the inside the outfit is probably under $50.
